"No peak above her"

My new novel

Lucy Walker - the English woman who climbs a mountain and comes down changed. And then another and another and another. Liskamm, Jungfrau,  the first ascent of the Balmhorn. Fourteen hours climbing the Eiger.

Naturally ladylike in a long white flannel dress and chunky nail shoes. The dress is a problem, the long skirt can literally be your downfall. Another woman has had to turn back because stormy winds on the Matterhorn caught her skirts and threatened to topple her down. But Lucy doesn't let such little things dissuade her. nor the fact that when the Matterhorn was first climbed, only three of the seven first climbers made it back to the valley alive.

Lucy longs for it. to be the first woman to stand on the Matterhorn and drink champagne there, as befits her status. To do this, she has to be faster than her rival, the American Meta Brevoort.  And come back down alive. There are no fixed ropes, no Goretex or cable car halfway up the mountain. And what a mountain it is, the one with the most beautiful abysses! Then there is another problem: love for her Swiss mountain guide Melchior Anderegg. He is married and anyway such a relationship is completely inappropriate...

“I love the mountains and Melchior - but Melchior already has a wife.” (Lucy Walker)
